TECH Deluxe REGA Acrylic Platter
This is our Deluxe
Acrylic Platter for the Rega Planar 2, Planar 3, P2,
P3, NAD 533 / C555, Goldring GR1, GR2 and Moth Alamo
range of turntables. It is 20mm deep, so it hides the sub-platter and motor
pulley / belt when viewed from directly in front of the deck. Our stock is the
latest 2021 version - improved in several respects in order to get the ultimate
performance from these excellent decks.
The advantages of using
an acrylic platter on the above decks has been well documented by reviewers -
smoother (less splashy) treble, incredibly transparent midrange and more
articulate bass. It is more neutral than the glass platter, and not as
'lifeless' as the MDF one.
Our improved Deluxe
Platter is made from jet black acrylic and features a two-part construction to
reduce resonance, together with a Platter Damping Ring which acts as a
peripheral wave trap. It also features a record label recess to enable perfect
support if you wish to use it without a mat. A further innovation is a three
point mounting to the sub-platter, the height of which is adjustable by 3mm, so
if you want to use it without a mat there will be no need to adjust the arm
height. This 20mm platter adds more 'solidity' to the sound, whilst retaining
the 'see-through' midrange quality of our 10mm acrylic one. The additional
peripheral mass also aids rotational stability. We are really pleased with this
improved platter - our original 20mm clear acrylic one sounded superb and made
a great upgrade from the original stock platter, but this one is better in
every respect! The platter sounds superb when used without a mat, but if you
don't like the idea of placing the record directly on to the acrylic, then our
Silicone Mat sounds great with it - definitely a natural partner!
