CEC BELT DRIVE BEARING SERVICE & UPGRADE

The bearing used in the CEC belt drive transports is basically a miniature turntable bearing, harking back to the days when CEC built many mid range and some exceptional hi end turntables!

One issue with the bearing is they used grease in the bottom and relied on the self lubricating sintered bushes in the main body to maintain its running condition. It is possible to achieve much smoother quieter running of the bearing with a simple upgrade, it just requires a little care and attention.

We strip and clean your bearing, remove the steel ball in the end of the shaft (which contacts a steel thrust pad, metal on metal with a little dab of grease doesn't promote much damping after a few years of running) and replace the ball with a hi grade ceramic ball, harder and much more round, it adds a resonance breakup point inside the bearing. We fill the main body with oil then fill the bottom cap, close up your bearing (carefully!) in order to maintain full oil level, the shaft now runs in oil permanently all the way to the top, smoother and quieter which promotes better data retrieval from the disc.

NOTE: This can only be done when we have your machine in for upgrades, or if you are comfortable in doing so, you can unbolt your bearing assembly from the drive and send it in to us, its quite easy to remove being held with only 3 bolts.
