Sonic Art presents a new locally made modular shelving system
“IT’S A RACKIT”
Sonic Art’s new in-house manufactured
equipment shelving system “it’s a rackit”…a
play on words and our feelings towards some of the rather “expensive” shelving systems
on the market!
I have been planning to manufacture
equipment shelving for years, and finally found some time this year to get the
design off paper and into my test room! I wanted to build a rack that offered a
modular, fully customizable, and well damped solution to supporting our often
delicate and always loved hifi equipment! I also
wanted it to be affordable yet without major compromises to the construction
and performance.
“IT’S A RACKIT” is a modular shelving system, it can be built into any number of
shelves, and can be customized to suit you needs exactly, from the shelf number
& size, to the length of the legs, we make it to suit you. The standard
rack as seen here is built with 265mm Merbau shelves,
the shelves are supported by solid 33mm Aluminium legs, the legs are isolated
from the shelves with Delrin decoupling spacers. The
standard leg length gives you 180mm gap between shelves. We can make these
longer or shorter depending on requirements. The legs are joined by threaded
rods and are very easy to assemble.
The finish is quality furniture oil. We
cut and shape the shelves then sand every one by hand, working down to a fine
grade of paper to achieve a silky finish. The beauty of oiled wood is it
displays the natural grain and colour, it is hard wearing and most importantly,
very easy to repair should you scratch or mark your shelves! Lacquers are hard
to repair without returning the parts to the manufacturer, oiled wood can be
repaired by the end user quite easily and it is easy to re-oil in years to come
to bring the finish back to new.
The racks are not made on a production
line, they are hand made, hand finished, and every one will be unique. We sand
and brush finish the alloy legs, they sometimes have tiny pores or marks in the
surface, this is all part of the hand made unique product. We could machine
every leg surface to perfection but then labour costs rocket upwards or we have
to employ automated machining to keep the costs down resulting in standardised
sizes and less choice for you.
Feet:
Racks come with steel spikes which screw into the base legs allowing you to
level the rack on any surface. For polished wood floors or tiles we can supply
alloy base discs that take the spikes in their centre recess, they are felt
backed. You will find them at the bottom of the rack listing.
If you have an idea of what you want in a
rack, wider shelves, custom spacing, a certain colour or wood finish, simply
email with your list and I will quote you for a custom rack that fits your
design brief.
